I’m incredibly humbled to be on this list curated by Ummah Wide and in the company of so many other wonderful Muslims in our ummah (community) whom I believe are incredibly creative, inspiring, smart, resilient, positive and who simply make me want to do more, do better and reach a level of ihsan (perfection) that they do.
Among the people I do know personally or am acquainted with somehow, I want to send a very special congratulations: Noor Kids, Launch Good, Alchemiya, Zilzar, Creative Ummah, Shahed Amanullah‘s new company Affinis Labs. To all the rest, I hope to meet you soon, insha’Allah.
There are others who weren’t on this list, but are incredibly innovative, creative, and inspiring, too. I’m sure you know who they are and I’m more than excited to see what’s in store for them next.

I am so incredibly excited to announce that I’ll be touring the Chicagoland area to talk about the recipes in my cookbook, Summer Ramadan Cooking! I’ll be making stops at various locations to do cooking demos, talk tips on Ramadan preparation and planning and answer questions on cooking and baking for the most special month of the year.
Admission is free and we’ll be giving away a lot of FREE things to guests, particularly the first 25 that come to each location. One person will go home with an amazing giveaway from Calphalon that you won’t want to miss!

Many of you have already heard about the recent airing of the CBS program, “Food, Faith & Culture” of which I was honored to be included in as it highlighted the influence of faith and culture on food. The program, produced by Liz Kineke of CBS Religion & Culture, covered a kosher restaurant in Brooklyn that’s setting the standards for modern kosher cooking, a langar kitchen (free for everyone) in a Sikh community, and halal food and cooking by following moi around for the day. Cooking Halal: an Online Radio Show
I found out about the Brass Crescent Awards nomination as I was prepping for my first segment of my Cooking Halal radio show on Blog Talk Radio. In case you missed it, you can listen online here. The topic I covered was Healthy & Halal Substitutes in Your Everyday Food. There is no set date for how often the show will take place, but I do plan to have some interesting guests on to discuss a variety of food-related topics as well as those pertaining to home and garden. insha’allah.

For halal food fans everywhere as well as those awaiting something unique in the food world, you might be interested to know that The Huffington Post contributor Naazish YarKhan thinks My Halal Kitchen could be making a difference.
She wrote a wonderful piece about this website and the growing halal food industry (i.e. companies like Crescent Foods and Taqwa Eco-Food), as well as a rising interest in halal foods, in general.
