It was great to see so much interest in our Green Deen Book Giveaway where readers were asked to submit their tips on keeping the kitchen green, or eco-friendly.
All of the entries were great, and we thought one was particularly full of information about how to be really green.
Jenny Ferjani, of Pennsylvania is a mother of four and grandmother of four. She loves to cook and bake and is exceptionally good at being eco-friendly in her kitchen.
This was her advice to readers,
We use 50% – 75% organic. As much as possible we try to use local farms which in our case living in PA means going to Whole Foods in the winter. Spring, Summer and fall we have an abundance of farm markets. We made the switch several years ago to cleaning as much as possible with vinegar and baking soda 9for our children’s sake) otherwise we use brands which are Eco Friendly and believe me that’s not always easy. We have no plastic in the kitchen. Glass storage only for leftovers. Kids have reusable lunch wraps and stainless bottles for their water. I am more proud of my kids when it come to being green. They are never afraid to speak out and let someone know how to “green up”!
And we thought that was just fabulous!
Jenny will receive a signed copy of Ibrahim Abdul-Matin’s book, Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet. To find out more about what he’s doing, join his Facebook page or follow him on twitter.
Tune in for the next great giveway.
