With kids back to school and everyone seeming to be on more of a straightforward schedule, it also seems to make mealtime more structured, though perhaps there’s less time to get full meals on the table in between homework and sports schedules. I don’t have kids, but juggle a hectic work schedule and I’m the only one cooking {most of the time}.

Sometimes in the middle of the day or even just before dinner when my husband comes home, I like to have something to nibble on while I can still cook a quick and healthy meal without being completely rushed for time. I’m picky about snacks, though. I like them to be healthy, but no processed and although I know that fruits are great, I actually prefer them after dinner, sort of as dessert (pulling back into my Sicilian roots and way of eating).

Have you ever tried argan oil?  It is some really amazing stuff that is great for cooking as well as making yourself beautiful on a budget…not that you need any more beautifying, of course.  In the past year I’ve been using it in my cooking and even more so on my sensitive skin (the cosmetic grade) in a massive effort to ward off wrinkles and dry skin and everything else that will help me look younger than I am. Am I the only woman who does that?  Actually, I’m also just really averse to using expensive cosmetics with fragrance or chemicals that I don’t feel comfortable putting on my face.

Lemon Ricotta Dip

For some reason, during Ramadan I tend to see, make, eat and enjoy appetizers the most. It’s nice to have something light but substantial at the initial breaking of the fast, but it’s more than that for me. Maybe it’s because when the fast-breaking time comes every evening, it’s one of the sweetest moments I experience (whether the appetizer is sweet or savory). I love biting into something I can hear crunch, maybe because it then actually feels like the sound of food. I’m not sure what it is, but I enjoy it.
