Amara Halal Cosmetics Giveaway | My Halal Kitchen

CLOSED: Amara Halal Cosmetics: A Glossy Giveaway!

A few years ago I got rid of all my makeup that had any sort of dangerous or questionable ingredients (i.e. chemicals like parabens and petrochemicals that are allegedly linked to cancers, ones I couldn’t understand or that contained pork by-products).  That didn’t leave me with but a few brands I found at Whole Foods Market, The Vitamin Shoppe, or the plant-based makeup by Origins. Thankfully, the organic & all-natural beauty line of cosmetics has grown, but what is really exciting is a new brand called Amara Halal Cosmetics. It’s not only free of any pork-based by-products, it’s also suitable for vegans and free of parabens.

Here’s what Shamalia Mohamed, founder of the Los Angeles, CA based company, has to say:

“Studies show that women who apply lipstick end up “eating’ the lipsticks via absorption through their skin,  by licking their lips, or when they eat/drink while wearing it. 4 to 9 pounds of lipsticks are consumed as result in an average woman’s lifetime. Imagine all the products currently in the market that are made with chemicals, fatty acids, alcohol, gelatin, or other ingredients that could be extracted from animals such as pigs.”

She also says, “Halal isn’t limited to what is consumed as food but also applies to what is put on our skin.” I couldn’t agree more. After all, the skin is the largest organ in our body and we now know that transdermal absorption is more real than we’ve ever realized before (think transdermal pharmaceuticals out in the market now).

I was fortunate enough to be able to try a large portion of the line of Amara’s new cosmetics and can attest to the fact that they are well-made, great quality and have a lovely choice of color palettes to suit a variety of skin tones. Now maybe I can finally look a little more alive in my cooking videos without having to worry so much about everything I’m putting on my face, too! They’re completely free of animal products (yay for vegans!), alcohol, gluten (how cool is that for gluten-free folks), petrochemicals, and other harsh chemicals. Also, since the ingredients are certified-organic and certified by IFANCA, that would also make them halal and ethical as a result.

How does she do all that? Well, I’ll stick to cooking and leave the make up to her…

In the meantime, you can enter to win a FREE natural lip gloss by Amara Halal Cosmetic simply by leaving a comment below. Just be aware of the official guidelines and tell me how excited you are about this or how this will rock your beauty world, too. Giveaway ends Saturday, January 5th, 2013 at 12:01 am.

*Disclosure: I received a complimentary variety of Amara Halal Cosmetics to try, however, all opinions expressed here are my own.

I recently converted to an organic/natiral diet and toiletries and didnt even think about the make up products.
Im happy & excited to hear that this has came out.

  6. Wow, I never thought about how much lipstick we consume! How gross! Lip gloss is something I wear every day and this would be pretty amazing to use with a clear conscience! I think I’ll go toss all the other stuff now!

  7. This is so inspiring! In an effort to remove all the ‘gunk’ in my life, this would be a step headed in the right direction! It’s an honor to support a Muslimah on this journey. Thanks for the chance.

  10. I love that their mission is to provide cosmetics that come from natural sources like plant extracts and use unrefined ingredients. Although I am not myself a Muslim, I appreciate Amara’s vision for my Muslim friends and millions of other women around the world. I’m adding Amara to my own wish list for cosmetics in the future for their vision and their product’s integrity!

  11. I enjoy finding and using natural health remedies and natural, organic products. I would be very excited to try this product out. It can be a bit difficult in this era to live an all-natural life. I am happy that there are companies like this one which make life more simple, easy, natural, and beautiful. Thank you!

  12. I am so excited to find another product that not only helps ladies look their best but also allows for us to also take care of ourselves. THANK YOU!!!!

  13. I love this! Nothing better than being able to wear something and not feel guilty about possible long term effects! My health has been on the decline and I have a newborn and 4 yr old. That said, like the blogger, I am ridding my closets and drawers of unnatural/loaded products =) I look forward to a fresher life so thank you for making cosmetics that can fit! =)

  14. You can never have too much lip gloss and I love the philosophy behind this! I’d love to try some, thanks for the giveaway Yvonne and MHK!

  15. Ew! I would love to try this. I was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and I am trying to change my life in little ways every day.

  16. I would love to have halal makeup. If I don’t, win I would love sample of the cosmetics . Like what marykay uses so you can determine if this is the right color for you. I would be willing to pay a small fee for a sample smudge of the different colors.

  17. Masha’Allah! AWESOME PRODUCT LINE!!! I am so happy to find this through “My Halal Kitchen” page on FB. KUDO to Amara Halal Cosmetic for creating wholesome ingredients for Muslimahs! JazakAllah!

  18. Assalamu Alaikum, this giveaway sounds so cool. I tend to be very choosy about the makeup I buy, but this line of products looks and sounds amazing, i cant wait to try! hopefully i can win the giveaway.

  19. Masha’Allah, this is great. I don’t wear make up due to the chemicals in most cosmetic products, however I would be happy to try this line. Thank you for the chance to win.

  20. I’m in the market for a new lip gloss. I currently only own ONE lip gloss and have been thinking of trying to expand my options. This would be a great start to getting into a new line of cosmetics. I’m also considering getting a new foundation, so if this lip gloss works out for me, I’d definitely be willing to try out the other cosmetics as well.

  21. Last year, after reading a post on sheikh Yusuf Estes website about pork based products, I threw away all my cosmetics including my toothpaste and my bathsoap…My husband thought I was crazy and was quite upset about all the waste of money. I started looking for Halal products and I found this brand. The colors are gorgeous, and it feels so good to use make up without fear. I was and still am very excited about it, and I even sharaed it with my family and friends.

  22. Well I’m exited about this products i never knew there was halal based products i love make up but due to our financial situaion i have to stick with drug store products i always heard about the vegan cosmetics but they r pricegrey i would really love to win this it would be great to have something halal thank u for this contest. i love ur page u always give me ideas for a nice dinner my husband thanks u hahaha

  23. I am excited to learn about your brand. I’m moving to US very soon and now that I found your brand, I won’t worry about how to get halal cosmetics anymore. ALHAMDULILLAAH.

  24. This is totally awesome! I have been using One Pure Halal cleanser and moisturizer for a couple years, but haven’t tried any of the newer halaal cosmetics out there. I LOVE that this is a US based company doing this as well. I would love to put something on my face that is better (or something at all! I currently stick to burts bees lip shimmer and eyeliner).

Thanks MHK for letting us know about a new halal product available!

  25. Honestly i stop using any make up since 2 years ago. my lips chapped and bleed when I tried a new lipgloss from the same brand i regularly used before. Even though i work under the sun almost all day long (work as an inspector of work on construction site) i prefer to go “bare skin” after reading many articles of bad affect of sunscreen.(chemicals = cancer).
I don’t think i will be wearing make up outside the house, but for my husband? definitely willing to wear it! but only if it not going to bring harms to both of us even if we consume it ;).

May Allah bless all of us!

  26. Assalamu alaikum.. I juz love to win this beautiful gloss.. because i haven’t tried halal cosmetics yet.. so juz wanna try it out .. and also it comes in different and beautiful colors.. as I’m a gloss wearer as i don’t use lip stick that much.. so wish to win this lip gloss inshaAllah.. <3

  27. I just started buying into more organic natural products and was looking for replacement makeup options….so grateful to have come across this post! would love to try and help support muslim business women in the process. a double win!

  28. Asalam Alikom wa Rahmtuallah wa Baraktuh!!! MashaALLAH what an excellent idea. Halal Makeup..this is just so amazing…I have never heard of this….I am 62 years young, and I shudder to think how much of the bad things I have consumed in the 11 years I have been a Muslima.. My husband is constantly telling me, do not forget your skin adsorbs all of this junk…

Even if I do not win anything I would still purchase from you, InshaALLAH.

  29. Thank you MHK for sharing this great news and the opportunity to win one as well. I will be looking for this product in whole foods. I have so many allergies, we eat halal, and I try to use only organic products. This would be a great addition for me as I haven’t used any facial or makeup products in over 15 years.

  30. This is great news !! I have tons of branded make up that I no longer use. Now I can throw it all away and be content that I can have halal products to use ! Thank you Amara !
