7-Quart Calphalon Digital Slow Cooker Giveaway

My recipe for Slow Cooker Haleem is a favorite in our house during Ramadan as an Iftar meal and many Muslim households have a similar version they hold dear. What helps me make the best haleem and many other dishes like perfectly braised meats, stews, and even soups that require slow cooking is the Calphalon Electrics 7-Quart Slow Cooker, one kitchen appliance I use over and over again.

Calphalon 7 Quart Digital Slow Cooker

It is a great machine for simple, but delicious cooking without the worry of when to turn it off because it has a digital timer on it- perfect for busy folks who don’t have time to add one more list of things to remember throughout the day, especially a fasting day

I’ve had many slow cookers in my years of cooking experience and none have cooked so evenly as this one. Its exterior is durable, unlike many others I’ve had and the interior pot holds in the heat when cooking but isn’t too heavy to remove and wash. Very important traits for an appliance that I’ll be lugging in and out of cabinets or shelving on a weekly basis.

About the Calphalon 7-Qt. Digital Slow Cooker

Calphalon’s exclusive Opti-Heat system uses internal sensors to monitor temperature and deliver even heat throughout the cooking process. This means that food will be cooked thoroughly and evenly, just like it has been doing mine ever since I started using it.

7- Quart Slow cooker in original box

This is what your box will look like when it comes to you, should you be the winner of this awesome giveaway!

Even the hottest food can be moved quickly and easily using the silicone-wrapped handles, which will always remain cool to the touch. Clean-up is also a breeze, with a ceramic pot interior and vented glass lid that are both dishwasher safe and a stainless steel exterior that can simply be wiped down with a damp cloth.

This Calphalon Slow Cooker also comes with a 24-hour timer and large LCD display. The auto settings cook food on high for the first 2 hours, giving the food a great texture and consistency. The cooker will then switch to Low for the remainder of the cooking period, to make sure the food is cooked through and gives it the real slow cooking taste of the same technique done manually over the stove. The built-in timer can be set according to the dish, and the machine will automatically be switched to “Warm” at the end of the cooking cycle, to keep the food at an optimum temperature for serving- very important for food safety.

Simple, elegant, and easy to use AND clean, the Calphalon Electrics 7-Quart Digital Slow Cooker delivers great results with minimal hassle- perfection inc ooking every time…

  1. biryani! this has to be perfect for dishes like biryani, which requires the right temperature with the right amount of time to turn out perfect. many times, the biryani ends up being burnt at the bottom and the rice still remains slightly uncooked because of the unevenness of the temperature throughout the pot.

  2. I would make swedish meatballs! My Dad made me them once in his slow cooker and the meat was so tender and delicious. :)

I’m so tentative to enter this giveaway because I want to win the KitchenAid giveaway so badly! :D

  3. YES! I am ready to win my own slow cooker! I would slow cook Texas-style chili in it! I love chili and it’s great for the upcoming winter months!

  4. I would try cooking Haleem of course!

  5. My husband would never forgive me if I didn’t first cook up a huge batch of Apple Butter.
I would then be trying your recipe for haleem as it looks amazingly tasty!

  6. I would try making nihari! I have always wanted to try making it and I think it would be well suited for a slow cooker.

  7. I would love to make Paya curry (beef trotters) in it .

  8. I would make Chinese White Radish Beef Ribs Stew. I gotta make it at home because I can’t find any halal restaurant serving this dish.

  9. I have been making kitchari, the Indian version of this dish ever since sister-in-law gave me my first pressure cooker 15 years ago.
I make it with several types of pulses (lentils), cracked wheat, ginger and garlic, beef, spices, and long grain rice, white or brown Basmati. Indians consider it an ayurvedic food to aid digestion, especially when one is fasting!

  10. “Hyderabadi Dum Chicken Biryani” is what I’d try first if I am the winner of this giveaway, since it would turn out awesome with slow cooking, apt temperature & the tight lid ,all of which would cook the meal well ,while keeping the aroma of this wonderful dish without burning the ingredients,to make it a flavor to remember life long:)

  11. I would make mac and cheese!! thats so different to try and make in a slow cooker I would really luv to see my sons faces if I were to make mac and cheese in the slow cooker!!!

  12. Wow…I would make all the good slow cooker recipes that I usually ignore because I don’t own one…LOL! Actually, the first thing I would make is ropa vieja.

  13. I would LOVE to use a slow cooker for chili, haleem, paya, lentil soup, veggie minestrone, lemon chicken, rice pudding, peach cobbler, pudding cake…oh the list could go on. It would be PERFECT for a working mom like myself. I could set the timer and my kids and I would come home to hot meal after a long day. oh Allah, I really hope I win this one!

  14. Salaam Waleikum and Ramadhan Mubarek! If I were to win this slow cooker, the first meal I would prepare for iftar is braised brisket. My husband keeps asking me to prepare it, and with four kids, this would be the most efficient way to prepare it! I would be so happy if you would pick me, (IA!)

  15. Yes! I’d love to win this! The first recipe I’d cook is corn beef and cabbage. I’d my mothers favorite meal!

  16. My mother used to make a “hareesa” only during Ramadan — a stew with fall-off-the-bone goat meat, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, black peppers, lentils and wheat — and we used to drizzle it with fresh lemon juice. Hearty and good. I think that’s what I’d try in the slow cooker first.

  17. I would make slow braised lamb

  18. Haleem would definitely would be the first dish that I would make. I always had difficulty making it in two different pressure cookers because as per my mom’s recipe, I first cook wheat and lentils in one and then lamb shoulder with the spices and onion in another cooker. If I get this slow cooker, things would be so much easier and I can cook the entire dish in it as per this recipe!

  19. Yes, I’d love to win one of my own. The first dish that I would cook in this would be a Lamb Stew! My husbands favorite. It’s great in one of these, to cook nice and slow. It would come out perfectly in a slow cooker vs. a stock pot! Hope to win! Thank you….

  20. I would certainly make an Uzbek national dish called ”no’xatsho’rak”. It is cooking lots of lamb with spices and overnight soaked chick peas. Delicious!!! For sure, this slow cooker is a dream for a low-income family like mine.
Ramadhan kareem to you and your loved ones!

  21. Assalamu alaikum,

I’ve always heard about people cooking haleem in a slow cooker but never tried it myself. I would like to cook chili in a slow cooker. I love slow cooking my chili on the stove until all the meat gets nice and tender and the slow cooker would definetly help me with this.

  22. asalamulaikum
my old slow cooker is dying (we use it so much!) ..would love to make the haleem in it or a yummy beef roast!!!

  23. I would slow cook some Chili, I LOVE it but it takes forever, this would make it soooo much easier!

  24. What wouldn’t I slow cook? Soup, stew, meatballs, you name it! The first thing I want to try is caramelizing onions and french onion soup. It’s too hot in my kitchen to sit there stirring onions for over an hour!

  25. The slow cooker would free up so much time to do many other things. Also. it would be really helpful in making fun items for youth events at the masjid, like nacho/cheese or chocolate sauce for dipping fruit etc, YUM!

  26. What an awesome giveaway! I just had to enter this one :) I’d make a nice Yemeni stew to see the difference between the meat cooked conventionally and cooked in a slow cooker.

  27. As salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu wa Ramadan Mubarak,

A slow cooker would get a great workout at my house. InshaAllah the first thing I would make would be oxtails.

  28. I think the first thing I would make, if I could afford it, is a leg of lamb. My husband loves lamb but we are in Florida and it is too hot to have the oven on all day to slow cook a whole bone-in leg of lamb. I haven’t had a slow cooker in years, but have been eyeballing them at the store for quite a while, just can’t afford one right now.

  29. I would love to make chilli, stews, and oatmeal in this.

  30. I would definitely have to say Lamb Shanks… Ohh and chicken. Chicken when overcooked, become cottony, and tough. I am a young cook who is just starting out, and i would love to try more recipes espec with the slow cooker. Plus my husband absolutely love tender meat tht is all off the bone style.

  31. I’ve been looking for a good slow cooker for ages! This one looks amazing, it would really cut down on my cooking time and be very helpful because I work all day. I would love to make so many things, soups, stews, and even main course dishes. Set it and forget it!

  32. The first dish would either be a chili or a stew. I’ve started utilizing slow cooking techniques more recently but with the kids eating first and us later, having a slow cooker with a warm setting would be beneficial.

  33. I would definately try my hand at Haleem if I were to win this wonderful slow cooker.

  34. I slow cook tough meats in my circulon/t-fal Dutch ovens. Although many people use pressure cooker for convenience, I’ve noticed that the results in terms of taste, texture etc are much better in the slow cooking process. Since I have an electric cooking range, slow cooking is fine but if I had to operate on gas, I m sure I would not have been able to manage the heat. Only after reading this post, I’m realizing what a great time and energy saver this slow cooker can be. Time saver in terms of not having to baby sit the meal like what I do with my Dutch oven. I have to check every half hour if the meat has enough moisture/sauce to cook in. If I have this slow cooker, I would use it everytime I prepare a mutton curry. I cook the mutton with very little oil, onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, spices, lots of cilantro and when the meat is cooked, I add any vegetable at hand – okra, beetroot, potato, turnip, beans etc and finish it off. Ofcourse I will also try my first haleem in this. I pray that this slow cooker goes to the one who needs it the most.

  35. There are so many things I would love to cook in this slow cooker, but I think I would start with some chicken with rosemary and garlic.

  36. I would make Mousli :) a Tunisian dish of chicken, potato, and Anaheim peppers slow cooked in a delicious broth and topped with italian parsley.

  37. I’d try making nihari! I think would be perfect for iftars!

  38. This would be my first. Looking forward to dishes I can make with this slow cooker. Thanks for the giveaway.

  39. Duane Middlebrook

I would use this cooker to make French onion soup!

  58. The first thing I would make if I win this slow cooker would be meat pulao. It’s meat mixed with rice, potatoes and peas. Also would definetly try Marg. its meat stew and it requires slow cooking of 5-6 hours. Excited about this giveaway.

  59. Some turkish lentil soup or Salvadoran black bean soup. :) I’m having some serious legume cravings so that’s definitely what I would cook first.

  60. Always wanted a slow cooker But never really had enough money to buy, they’re always priorities that come before a slow cooker, as a matter I never tried anything made in a slow cooker before. Inshallah if I win it, the first I wanna try is Moroccan harira.

  61. I would agree with you. Haleem is probably the dish i would love to first make in the slow cooker, since all the mixed lentils require slow cooking over a long period of time to get that ideal texture. Haleem has always been a ramadaan favourite in our household.

Sounds wonderful and I would love to try it! :)
